Why I joined UKIP, or The straw that broke the camel's back
I can't remember how or when I first became fully aware of the folly that is now the EU….. the one thing I do know is that what we once called "The Common Market" has evolved into an undemocratic behemoth, clearly showing that we were sold a lie.
In 2011 I signed the HM Government e-petition for an EU referendum along with more than 100,000 others. This triggered a debate in Parliament that could have lead to a democratic decision by us all as to whether we remained in the EU.
However, Cameron, Miliband and Clegg all employed a 'Three Line Whip' to ensure that a referendum could not occur….. the people's views were not to be allowed to be heard.
It was at this point that I began to look at UKIP's offering more closely and I realised this is the party which really cares about our country, its heritage, and is prepared to listen to its people. The only question I had was 'why hadn't I joined before?' Enough was enough, it was time for change.
I am proud to have joined UKIP and instead of shouting at the telly, I now put my energy into raising awareness of what UKIP stands for and listening to the people locally.
If you're patriotic and believe in democracy, then join us - I look forward to meeting you.
